Linn Benton Lincoln ESD

Located near downtown Albany, Oregon, the Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District campus is housed in a collection of historic early 20th-century school buildings that have been repurposed over the decades into administrative office space. This renovation project focused on preserving the architectural character of the 100-year-old structures while significantly improving building performance, safety, and functionality.

The project included extensive interior renovations, such as the reorganization of administrative offices, upgrades to restrooms and conference areas, and the creation of a welcoming work café and wellness center. Special attention was given to the main floor, which serves visiting children and families, with design solutions that emphasized accessibility and public interface while maintaining separation from private workspaces.

The renovation addressed thermal, air, and water management deficiencies in the load-bearing masonry walls through the installation of air barriers, continuous insulation, a drainage plane, and seismic bracing. Deteriorated masonry required substantial preparation prior to the installation of new windows and envelope upgrades. Roofing systems were also improved as part of a comprehensive building envelope strategy.

The work was completed while the building remained occupied, requiring careful planning and coordination. The project not only brought the facility up to modern seismic and mechanical standards but also reinforced LBL ESD’s commitment to serving families in a safe, functional, and historically respectful environment.
